Before You Meet Your Lin’s
Notes on Leather & Light
Every lamp born at Lin’s carries a craftsman’s focus and the blessing of time. Before you bring this warmth into your home, here are a few thoughts on the nature of leather and light we wish to share:
1. Embracing Nature’s Imprint
We use raw, natural vegetable-tanned leather that retains the neck wrinkles, growth marks, and subtle scars of the animal’s life. To us, these are not flaws, but evidence of a life once breathed. Every lamp’s texture is singular and unrepeatable. We hope you will cherish this irreplaceable natural beauty.
2. Numbered by the Passing of Time
To document our journey of creation, every piece is hand-stamped with a unique serial number (NO. for original works or RE. for reborn vintage pieces) in the exact order they are completed.
3. The Patience for Maturation
From cutting and burnishing to every single stitch, each piece is meticulously developed at Lin’s studio. To ensure uncompromising quality, the lead time for both original and restored works is approximately 14–21 working days. We thank you for your patience in allowing this handcrafted warmth to reach perfection.
4. On the Initial Shade
Natural leather darkens instinctively with exposure to its environment. The elegant, pale cream hue you see upon arrival is merely the starting point of a lifelong maturation. We invite you to watch it slowly absorb the light, shadows, and scent of your life, deepening into a rich, storied amber.
Care & Maturation: Growing with Light
The Lin’s leather lamp is a living object. It is designed to breathe, evolve, and mature alongside your daily life.
To ensure its graceful aging, please follow these simple guidelines:
1. The Alchemy of Light and Oils
The gentle warmth from the light bulb acts as a natural catalyst for the leather's oils. Regular use, combined with occasional light touch from your hands, will naturally deepen the leather into a lustrous, storied amber patina.
2. Preserving Scent & Memory
Natural vegetable-tanned leather is highly porous and will absorb the ambient scents of its environment—be it the aroma of fresh coffee or the comforting scent of a nursery. To preserve these pure, personal memories, avoid using strong chemical air fresheners near the lamp.
3. Gentle Maintenance
To clean, simply wipe the surface with a dry, soft cotton cloth to remove dust. Avoid using wet cloths, alcohol, or chemical cleaners, as these may cause permanent staining or hardening of the natural fibers.
4. Handling Accidental Spills
Vegetable-tanned leather is sensitive to water. Should a spill occur, blot immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry naturally. Never use a hairdryer or heat source, as excessive heat will cause the leather to shrink or warp.
5. Long-term Conditioning
Over time, the leather will absorb natural oils from the air and your touch. If the environment is particularly dry, you may apply a very thin layer of Lin’s Special Leather Conditioner or a high-quality natural mink oil every six months to maintain its suppleness and sheen.
